One of our more recent projects was based in Kensington and required us to turn a 3 bedroom, 1 bathroom period residence into a modern 4 bedroom, 2 bathroom home with living space for a growing family. The transformed elevation exudes style and eloquence with the feature entry leading the way to the living room extension at the rear. |
This space is perfect for entertaining and compliments the award winning kitchen which contains everything for the Master Chef.
The rear stacker doors lead to the spacious alfresco while the lock-up carport provides added security. Storage was also a priority and was integrated into a modern home which flows seamlessly between the old and the new. Gemmill Homes’, Home Improvements division moved into spacious and stylish new offices in Osborne Park earlier this year, complete with a designer display showroom. The design centre incorporates the Home Improvement division’s most requested products in a kitchen, dining and bathroom format and allows clients to see different designs, fittings and fixtures in a styled setting. Gemmill Home Improvements senior consultant David Sell said the showroom allows clients to touch and feel the products in person and visualise their updated home with a 3D walk-through design on the big screen.
The kitchen features fashionable Q stone benchtops, gloss white cabinetry and stainless steel appliances along with an innovative splashback by GraphiKote where an image of Perth’s skyline has been etched onto glass. Dorf tapware, a back-to-wall toilet, frameless glass shower and semi-recessed sink finish off the bathroom space as 330x660mm porcelain tiles cover the floors. Mr Sell said the new offices are a far cry from the division’s previous set up. He said, after its inception in March last year, the Home Improvements section worked from the Gemmill Homes Group head office, just down the road from their new address, but fitting a new team into the original office wasn’t as easy as it sounds. “We were based in the Gemmill head office but we were bursting at the seams with the growth of the division,” Mr Sell said. “There was only one meeting room we could book for meetings with clients but now we have the design centre, which demonstrates finishes and fittings for clients and it feels like you’re walking into a home.” |
“No isn’t a word we like to use much, so anything is possible”
Mr Sell said the kitchen, dining and bathroom format was chosen because they are the main areas of the home where finer details need to be decided. “When we’re designing a living room, you’re talking mainly about size and layout but the wet areas are where you have to think about appliances, benchtops, tiling heights and so on.” Whether it’s for entertaining, family living, updating, or just creating space, Gemmill Home Improvements can complete renovations from kitchen and bathroom upgrades, room additions and second storey extensions right through to a whole home makeover. “No isn’t a word we like to use much, so anything is possible,” Mr Sell said. “Plus, we’re a small team so each client gets our full attention.” The company offers a free design service where consultants visit the home, meet the family and try to understand how they live and as part of the Gemmill Homes Group, all of the Home Improvements builds are also backed with the company’s 25-year structural guarantee.

Cabinets
A damp sponge is recommended for cleaning your cabinets and benchtops in the Springtime! Care should be taken not to leave dish drains, sponges or water-filled material above bench joins as excessive moisture can seep in and cause damage. Ensure the rangehood fan is turned on when using the hotplate to ensure that excessive moisture does not accumulate on the cupboards or ceiling above.
Windows and Doors
It is normal for water to collect in the tracks of doors and windows. Door and window tracks do have small weep holes to allow water to drain. The holes must be kept free of debris or they won’t drain properly. To ensure efficient operation of windows and doors, regular cleaning and maintenance should be carried out. (i.e. tracks cleaned and lubricated with silicone spray).
